Science Fair for Young Children (SFYC) is a project designed for primary school students, and about 200,000 participants have taken part in this initiative since 2006, at school, regional and national levels. The ex-SYFC students are in secondary school now and are collectively known as the SFYC Alumni. For the benefit of these Alumni, ASTI organised an inventing competition named the Young Inventors Challenge (YIC) with the Theme “Green Inventions: Ideas on Sustainability” as follows:

This year’s YIC, i.e. YIC 2013, pilot project, sees a total of 12 teams comprising 5 SFYC Alumni each showcased their inventions and vying for the top three spots which awarded cash prizes. The top team was also be awarded the challenge trophy. In conjunction with the invention competition, there was also be an exciting Video Log competition where each team has documented its whole invention journey of 5 months in a film of 5 minutes! The top three videos received prizes.
The event was graced by YB Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Bin Mohamad Diah, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).
