STEM is still seen as a male dominated area. Although the enrollment of women in STEM subjects has improved over the years, but their involvement in STEM related careers still lags behind. This webinar hopes to start the conversations on some of these key issues and on how to overcome these challenges, particularly in light of the fast changing world post-Covid 19 and beyond.

The Association of Science, Technology & Innovation (ASTI) in collaboration with Universiti Malaya STEM Centre, and U. S. Embassy have successfully hosted Florence Tan a Malaysian Born NASA Scientist for two events at Universiti Malaya. Florence Tan was born in Malaysia and wanted to work in the space business ever since she saw Star Trek re-runs om Malaysian TV while growing up. She made her way to college in the U.S and parlayed her early Networking Skills with a fellow student into an internship and later, a career, at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
Florence attended the Networking Lunch at PAUM Club House, University Malaya which was hosted by Datuk P Kamalanathan, Chairman of Labuan Port Authority and attended by Dr. Mohamed Yunus Yasin, Presidents of ASTI.
Florence also delivered a talk in the Hybrid Event at The Cube, Faculty of Engineering, University Malaya on the Topic “FROM MALAYSIA TO NASA- SUCCESS AND CHALLENGES: MY JOURNEY TO FULFIL MY DREAM”. This hybrid event was attended by 300 over participants via google meet platform and 30 over participants who attended physically. Her talk was very engaging and inspiring to the audience.
