Q: What is the YIJ Invention-Innovation Paper Writing Competition?

This competition provides participants from the Young Technopreneurs Challenge (YTC) and Young Inventors Challenge (YIC) with the opportunity to convert their business plans or reports into academic papers. The goal is to document their innovation or invention in a formal academic format, enhancing critical thinking and communication skills while showcasing their ideas to a broader audience.

Q: Who is eligible to participate?

Participants of past YTC and YIC are eligible. Teams who have submitted a project report or business plan during the challenge are welcome to join.

Q: What language should the paper be written in?

All papers must be written in English .

In conjunction with the 20th Anniversary of the Science Fair for Young Children (SFYC), the Association of Science, Technology and Innovation (ASTI) is pleased to launch the Science Fair Teachers’ Paper Writing Challenge 2026 for teachers from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) across Malaysia.

The competition provides a platform for teachers to share their experiences, ideas, innovative practices and reflections in education, particularly in nurturing curiosity, creativity and scientific thinking among young learners.

Is this competition mandatory for YTC and YIC participants?

No, participation is optional but highly encouraged for those who wish to further develop their writing and presentation skills in an academic context.

How will this competition benefit me?

By participating, you will learn to structure and write a comprehensive academic paper, gain skills in formal documentation and citation practices, enhance your critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and increase the visibility of your ideas to a wider audience.

Can I submit a paper as a team?

Yes, team submissions are allowed. The team must consist of a majority or half of the team members from the original YTC or YIC project. Team can be of 2 – 5 members. Individual submission is also allowed.

What language should the paper be written in?

All papers must be written in English.

Will there be training or module provided for participants?

Yes, participants will have access to training video on writing invention-innovation paper and module on referencing techniques.

Can we include new data or findings in the paper?

Yes, participants can expand on their original project by including updated data or findings, provided they align with the objectives of their original submission.

ASTI Feynman Challenge 2026

Introduction

The ASTI Feynman Challenge (AFC) is an online programme launched during the Movement Control Order (MCO) in 2020. Since then, it has grown steadily, attracting over 600 registrations and more than 300 video submissions each year.

AFC invites teams of two or more participants to explain a scientific concept in a creative way. This can be done through hands-on demonstrations—such as building a simple model using everyday materials—or through storytelling using digital or physical tools. Each team is required to submit a 5-minute video of their explanation on YouTube.

Based on the Feynman Technique, AFC encourages participants to learn by simplifying and clearly explaining ideas. Supporting modules are provided to guide participants, and selected entries will be featured on ASTI’s new portal.
